National Boating DayJuly 1st, 2009
Boating season has officially begun for all, including congress. July 1st, 2009, has been formally recognized as the country’s National Boating Day, passing both the House and the Senate this June. Congress dedicated a day to boaters and the boating industry in a display of support and appreciation of their contributions to the nation’s economy.
The 2008 Recreational Boating Statistical Abstract released recently by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA), sheds light on the millions of boaters, whose numbers are growing every year. The report shows that there are more than 17 million recreational boats on the water, the majority of which (95%) are less than 26’ in length. $33.6 billion were filtered into the U.S. economy in 2008 from the recreational boating industry with $7.6 billion alone spent on new powerboats. The report also shows that the average boat owner, once seen as affluent, has a household income of less then $100,000 a year.
So, on July 1st, celebrate boating. Get out on the water to relax and enjoy yourself with friends and family. Have fun and make memories that will last a lifetime on the water this Wednesday. And always boat responsibly!
