Monnichmeyer's Formula 255---A Dream Boat

A "knife." That's what I thought when I first saw this boat (Formula 255) at a dealership in Arizona many years ago. At the time, I was just a young teenager. My dad and I decided to go to the boat dealership just to have a look with no intention of buying anything. I pointed out the 255 Formula to my dad, and since we both weren't familiar with boats my dad asked the salesperson what kind of boat it was. His reply was, "It's a Formula!" At the time, the name didn't have meaning for us, but one thing was obvious: we both knew the boat was something special. The clean and sleek lines would stand the test of time. Needless to say, my dad ended up buying the boat that day!

During the next 20 years (yes, 20 years) we just admired the boat, as it was mainly dry docked in Arizona. Unfortunately, due to my father's hectic life, I can count on one hand how many times we actually enjoyed the boat and took it out for a ride. As I got older, I got to the point of being able to afford my own Formula. I often went to the showrooms or browsed through magazines to see all the latest models. I loved every single one, but my heart was set on the one I saw way back when-my dad's 1978 Formula 255.

I decided to ask my father to sell the boat to me about five years ago. His answer was no. And, three years later I asked again and it was still no-until last year. I received a call from him with an offer to sell. I thought I was hearing incorrectly, but I wasn't. Within a month I had "my boat" transported from Arizona to Miami and started the 10-month "open-wallet" restoration process.

The boat is now fully restored--I can't even count the number of compliments I get every weekend! The best part is watching their faces when I tell them it's a 1978 Formula. There is always a moment of silence and then the slow expression of "WOW!"

I thank John Adams for the timeless design and Don Aronow for creating Formula...

Sincerely,
Miguel Monnichmeyer
