Decatur, IN—The Formula 260 Sun Sport is a creation of John Adams, Formula’s exclusive designer for over 35 years. Since their introduction several years ago, Formula Sun Sports have often been copied but never equaled. Setting a higher standard, Formula combines the luxury expected with the practicality day boaters need and want. The 260 Sun Sport measures 28′ with an 8’6″ beam. The sleek, 22-degree deep-V hull reflects Formula’s eminent performance heritage.
Following in the footsteps of its largest sibling, the 400 Super Sport, this new Formula has curvaceous lines from bow to stern. The transom entry door to port offers easy cockpit access from the truly usable, deep swim platform. Nonskid is molded into all logical boarding areas, making for safe entry into the boat from dockside. The cockpit is large, with plenty of space for everything needed to spend an entire day on the water with family or friends. A starboard-side, U-shaped lounge accommodates passengers in companionable comfort. The table is ideal for a meal or snack, or adding the filler cushion to create a great sunning area further extends enjoyment of the lounge area.
Opposite the cockpit lounge is the integrated wetbar, a feature that Formula has perfected to clever practicality. Far from being just a sink and cooler, the 260’s wetbar is a sleek, continuous-molded fiberglass unit. One side is a large molded-in sink. Next to the sink, Formula conceals a trash receptacle and a standard 171⁄2-quart Igloo® cooler. Each is contained in an integrated compartment designed to prevent shifting while underway. Below, an acrylic door opens to access even more storage and the battery switch and breaker panel.
Just forward of the wetbar to port is a comfortable lounge seat. Sculpted into a graceful curve at the forward end, this seat is a great place to recline. Or, it provides generous seating for two. The doublewide command seat is designed with a special dual-position helm section. After tipping this section up, the driver can either stand or lean back against the seat’s well-padded edge.
In true Formula style, storage in the cockpit is plentiful. The aft seat backrest lifts up for integrated storage of the two standard fenders. Another storage compartment is located beneath the aft lounge seating area. The double port seat offers a large storage area, and even the command seat has storage below. An extra-large, in-floor ski locker provides more room for skis, water toys or PFDs. Cupholders are plentiful—there are nine in the cockpit—and easily reached by all aboard.
The foredeck is accessible by molded-in steps at the helm. Designed with real people in mind, the steps are logically spaced and deep enough to provide safe footing. The curved-glass windshield has a center walk-through, and as Formula’s own diamond nonskid is molded down the centerline of the deck, anchor stowage at the bow can be reached safely.
The cabin is entered through a curved, sliding acrylic door and features a U-shaped forward dinette lounge upholstered in UltraLeather™. Perfect for the occasional bout with inclement weather, the lounge may be used for dining with the table in place or to sleep two with filler cushions. Formula integrates storage for the table and cushions, keeping the cabin free of clutter. A counter to starboard features cupholders and hinges up to access the standard head or optional porcelain unit.
The 260 Sun Sport is powered by single-engine packages offered by Mercury MerCruiser or Volvo ranging from 300-to 425-horsepower. The shift/throttle with trim switch assures total confidence at the helm. Flush-mounted VDO Vanguard instrumentation and accessory rocker switches with E-T-A circuit breakers ensure accurate monitoring of all systems. A VHF radio with antenna is optional.
Like all Formulas, the 260 Sun Sport is engineered and built to perfection, from its curved-glass windshield to its integrated swim platform with concealed ladder. Its universal appeal is expected to reach across many boating styles—inland as well as offshore. A day of boating can easily turn into a fun-filled weekend on the 260 Sun Sport, proving again that Formula designs for the way people boat today.
